Jane’s Walk in East End

Jane’s Walk in the East End was a great success! We had 40 walkers on the 1.7 mile tour of the Second Ward on Saturday, May 7, 2011, led by Felix Fraga, who delivered anecdotal highlights of the area from the mid 19thcentury through the present day. We looked at historic homes, converted warehouses and old buildings, Settegast Park, Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and St. Vincent’s Cemetery, the Preston St. tunnel, Franklin St. underpass, and talked about the old rail & trolley lines, early demographics, and much more. History of the area’s first settlement, Frost Town,  a mixture of immigrants who established the commerce & industry that both transformed & shaped Houston, was also presented.

The tour ended with lunch at Ninfa’s on Navigation.

Thank you to CTC, Neil Morgan and the Ninfa’s on Navigation staff, and to Felix Fraga for an delightful tour!
