Japhet Creek Dis(solve)

GEEMD partnered with the University of Houston Graphic Communications Program and the Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture, the Houston Parks and Recreation Department, and Buffalo Bayou Partnership to introduce a collection of semi-permanent park amenities to Houston’s first Green Fingers project at Japhet Creek on March 27, 2010. A crowd of 135 people met at Japhet Creek to see these amazing projects. Oh My! Pocket Pies served delicious snacks and local band, Inzurgo, entertained the crowd.

The District and our partners thank Jim Ohmart and Eileen Hatcher, long time stewards of Japhet Creek, for their environmental knowledge of the area and clean-up efforts along this important green finger connection to Buffalo Bayou. Also thanks to Proler SW, Debner + Company, and Trees for Houston for donations of plant material, scrap metal, steel containers and earth moving equipment.

Japhet Creek Dis(solve) was selected byKeep Houston Beautiful to receive the Mayor’s Proud Partner Award in the 2010 Mayor’s Proud Partners competition.  GEEMD thanks  our “green” partners for the efforts put toward this very unique project. Congratulations to all!
