Streetcars are revitalizing many urban areas in other cities in the U.S. A circulator system, utilizing streetcars or trolleys, would improve mobility within the East End’s Second Ward area for visitors and residents, and provide greater exposure to new development within the Livable Centers area. The concept could move people in and around the Second Ward, and connect to nearby attractions including Minute Maid Park, George R. Brown Convention Center, Discovery Green, Dynamo Stadium, and could become part of a larger system that serves the greater downtown Houston area.
On August 30, 2011, the Greater East End District hosted a streetcar workshop presented by Better Houston at the District offices. Guest speakers were Cal Marsella, former director of Denver’s Regional Transit District; Rob Chappell, Rail Program Manager for Veolia; Steve Roescher, Director of Business Development at Siemens Industry, Inc.; and Peer Chacko, of Dallas Area Rapid Transit system.
Attached are the presentations made by each of these speakers, as well as the workshop introduction by Peter Brown of Better Houston.
